SummaryOur council participates in joint endeavours with the Knights of Columbus. Our first Parish activity is the New Year Eve Ball. Then the Family Day Hay Ride in February has our ladies busy cooking hot dogs and hot chocolate, as everyone coming in from the cold requires some hot sustenance. Participants enjoy the bustle. In the new year, we have the installation of the executive, followed by our Membership Brunch. The membership drive begins with our president speaking to the parish after each mass on a weekend in October. The drive is concentrated on three weekends, but we recruit throughout the year. We take time to celebrate and reacquaint ourselves again at the June and December socials. In the spring, our ladies eagerly assist in the organizing of the Taize Workshop and the Spring Carnival concession and Sweets & Treats booth. Our members volunteer for the Stations of the Cross liturgy on one Thursday evening during Lent where music and prayers are chanted. In the fall the CWL collaborates with the Mass of Remembrance, the Festival of Giving, the Ecumenical Choir Fest and the Pasta Supper and Silent Auction.
As a
service to our community, our funeral lunch convenor leads a team of
members in coordination with the family of the deceased in the preparation
of a lunch for the attendees after the funeral mass. |
|
Our
council provides many community services from supplying a meal to Habitat
for Humanity workers to participating in the World Day of Prayer.
We assist the Carmelite Nuns with their craft sale at our church.
Our Council has hosted the Bizarre Women’s Book Club and a few
evenings of Stampin’ Up. Annually
the residents of Dickensfield are treated to our ladies’ culinary skills
and companionship. |

Our
Bazaar held the first Saturday in November commences 9 months prior with
the selection of a convenor. She
guides her volunteers to convener different areas of the bazaar, from the
Tea Room, Crafts Table, Bake Table, Multi-Raffle Table to the Raffle
Tickets Sales. Throughout the
year, the ladies organize and coordinate the sales of apple pies,
tourtieres, cabbage rolls, spring rolls and baking. |

Our
council is committed to supporting the Edmonton Zone 9 activities by
attending their meetings. Members
from our council contribute to the Lurana Tea in April; the Kara Golf
Tournament in May and the Kara Garden Tours in July. |

|
Our
council participates with the larger Diocesan CWL group during the
Diocesan Chrism Mass celebrated on the Monday before Holy Thursday.
At that time the Archbishop blesses and distributes the 3 oils to
be used in the parishes throughout the following year.
St. Charles CWL also assists St. Joseph Basilica CWL when they have
a large function such as an ordination of a priest. |

|
Our
activities are constantly evolving as members bring forward new ideas and
suggestions. |
